404 attacks

404 Attacks
Little is known about the origination of the “404 Attacks” meme. The theory and application of the project ranges from the large to minute, and tends towards Culture Jamming in its scope. The various participants in the 404 project are relatively unknown, as the attacks themselves typically slip under the radar and thus have received very little publicity.
Use in Literature
The first cited use of the 404 attacks was in the novel Fallen Nation. In the novel, it is utilized by the fictional ontological terrorist organization “The Mother Hive Brain Syndicate”. It has since been picked up by the hacker collective Anonymous.
In practice, the 404 Attacks are a technique for disseminating disinformation through various networks. The campaign thus far seems to be organized through mIRC, various message boards, and relatively small circles of culture jammers. The project in general, much like Operation Mindfuck, leads an outsider to an immediate double bind scenario: The only safe assumption is that everything that is read or disseminated globally through various media networks, especially but not limited to the internet, is false or a part of the 404 Attacks- However, this is not really a safe assumption at all, as it lends itself to widespread paranoia and skepticism at the very least.
Motives behind each individual’s level of participation vary across the board. Typically these motives include, but are not limited to: Increasing awareness, pulling the curtain back on the art of persuasion/”mind control”, increasing chaos in systems that tend towards homeostasis, and Doing It For The Lulz.
The overall significance of the campaign itself is to undermine what is often referred to as “reality” but relies primarily on consensual validation and groupthink.
Techniques include, but are not limited to, strategic application of art crime (graffiti campaigns, reality tunnel manipulation, guerilla theater, etc.), meme dissemination, social engineering and production of media designed to disrupt traditional thought patterns in subhuman primates.
Alternate Speculations
There exist a few other proposed origins for the 404 meme (before its use in the novel “Fallen Nation”) and these have been the subject of conjecture, but remain at the moment unverifiable. By its very design, the project works to actively blur the lines between fiction and reality, so the myths surrounding the “404 attacks” as a concept are open to scrutiny. Least likely of these scenarios is that the 404 Attacks owe their origination to a massive disinformation campaign as perpetuated by the Federal Government and its work with the Psyops Program. This is probably by far the most obvious red herring, other rumors surrounding the project itself is that it is an elaborate conceptual art piece, that it is a form of viral marketing or an , or that it is a division of Neurocam international which itself is a well-known internet project with shadowy roots in myths of mind control, alternate realities, and conspiracy. Perhaps the most likely of the proposed origins of the “404” meme is a modern day spin off on . The project’s rumored associations with Neurocam International also has lead to its association with John Fowles’ . The 404 attacks associated graffiti campaigns have been known to utilize the Greek word “ELEUTHERIA” (or “FREEDOM”) and this supports its ties with The Magus and possibly back to Neurocam international operations, which conceptually themselves seem to be based upon the work of Artaud in blending theater with reality.
Instances of 404 related graffiti
The following consists of several images related to slogans appropriated by 404 in graffiti discovered throughout the US.
“ELEUTHERIA” and “NOTHING IS TRUE” can clearly be recognized as being quotes from Fowles’ “The Magus” thus lending some credibility to the Neurocam International allegations as per the corporation’s tendency to provide early trainees with missions related to “The Magus” and to utilize elements of its narrative. The phrase “THE EMPIRE NEVER ENDED” originates from the Philip K. Dick science fiction novel VALIS.
The phrase in its entirety, “NOTHING IS TRUE, EVERYTHING IS PERMITTED” has often been cited as being a quote from Fowles’ “The Magus”, William S. Burroughs’ , and finally attributed to the legendary master of the Assassins Hassan-i Sabbah, who historically was credited with drugging and brainwashing the enemies of his soldiers using a powerful chemical combination of opium, hashish, and cocaine.
Another slogan associated with the Human 2.0 Front with its tenuous ties to 404 Attacks is “DIY or DIE” or alternately “EVOLVE OR DIY”.

Starting in 1951, 26 years ago, I began in my stories (and then novels) to make certain very serious guesses about the nature of reality: Questioning if it was really there, out there (not in here), and, if so, if out there, what it really was like. In Tears in ’70, just about 20 years after I began to ask, I began to try to answer. There are no answers in Tears, not even later on in Scanner — but for me as the asker in 3-74 the answer (singular) came: What is out there really is the same as what is in here really — i.e., what I call Zebra, which probably is either Christ — the cosmic Christ — or Brahman — or a reality-web forming, mandating AI-like entity which observes us, sets up problems for us, and assists us in solving them, and at the same time teaches us, and, as it teaches, sorts us into different groups for post-mortem assigning in to a totality of a hive-like corporate system. It takes great pains to occlude us perceptually, evidently not wishing to “contaminate” its results. But I did over a 26 year period ask the right questions, and so, in 3-74, it did answer, which suggests an AI knowing system once more: one must know it is there or guess a little correctly to “punch the buttons” which cause it to answer. People have not gotten it to answer before because they did not guess it was alive and hence did not question it. The universe resembles a teaching machine, and part of the problem (i.e., learning) is to discern just precisely that.

… the best place …

“When people told themselves their past with stories, explained their present with stories, foretold the future with stories, the best place by the fire was kept for the storyteller.” [Jim Henson Company]

“Myths spring from the real and actual, and to the real and actual they inform.”

Everytime I think about my involvement and about Neurocam in general, my blood boils.

I can’t promise PM’s or free secrets because there arent any really. What happened from 2000-2005 is out there. You just had to tread carefully and choose the truths that lined up with whatever reliable networking you were doing. 2006 was the last year you would have been able to do any kind of decent networking anyway, and even then it would have taken a heap of effort and longevity.

Miraculously, The Nautonier and it’s various branches were able to purge most of the “ARG” wanabe’s from the organizations, retain a small group of dedicated members and close the doors for good.

Most dropped off the map forever, some of us maintain loose friendships with current members, and a small few still steer through the silence. Conducting R&D, analyzing their history (and information that never made it to any blog or archive) and waiting, possibly for a generation or more.

It kills me to google Nautonier, Neurocam, Yellow 1, Fiat NOX, etc. and find nothing much more current than this post. Sifting through the graveyards of misinformation blogspots bring me feelings of relief and nostalgia. I can’t bring myself to breach old promises or strain current friendships, but I know that I wouldnt be holding my breath.

Maybe you read this then find yourself at a bar one day. Your friend of 10 or 20 years leans over and mumbles something like, “I gotta tell you about this thing that happened to me”. That’s your best bet. But as these things go, maybe not.

Mayday Mystery

May Day Mystery summary paper:

For the last twenty-odd years, cryptic ‘announcements’ have appeared every May 1st (and on various other, less frequent, dates), since 1981, in the Arizona Daily Wildcat, the student newspaper of the University of Arizona, Tuscon. (…)
The Orphanage are allegedly trying to alter reality. If not by physically altering time and space, then certainly by altering people’s perception of reality (perhaps through alterations to the American educational system? Hence the attacks on the Department of Education?) (…)
February 28, 2002 E-mail: “We have a long-standing project studying the nature of consciousness and especially its transmission through the physical envelope of the human persona.”
Does this mean they are all just psychologists and this is merely one massive psychological experiment?
It is possible that the announcements are an elaborate exercise in meta-programming (external link): that the aim of the announcements is to make the reader shift belief systems with each announcement, to demonstrate that, ultimately, they are all just different frameworks into which one fits their experiences. Alternatively, it could be that the announcements are trying to lead its readers into a specific frame of reference, apparently either one of revolution, or of Methodism.

Angelic Society

The Angelic Society and the Hypnerotomachia Poliphili

In 1470, in Venice, the existence of an organisation known as “The Fog” or “The Angelic Society” was reported. It is the same period when Colonna is a prominent citizen of that town. It is a secret, alchemical society, also known under the more Latin name of Voarchadumia. This word, invented for this purpose (like so much of the Hypnerotomachia), means “gold of two perfect cementations”, or “gold twice refined”. It is derived from a Chaldean word meaning “gold” and a Hebrew expression which means “on top rubies”. The organisation is described as a society in which the members, practitioners of alchemy, try to create an ideal “State”, using the principles of the Kaballah. The programme also states that schools and academies should teach the Kaballah. Furthermore, the laws of this State need to be adapted in such a way that they are based on Wisdom and not on Power. Such visions of a new State and a new age, were quite common in late 15th century Italy. (…)

The AA, like the “Compagnie” explains to its members that it has to protect “the Secret” – with capital S – at any cost. The “manual” for the members needs to be read and speaks of a rigour which we would expect to find in a training manual for the intelligence agencies or a terrorist camp: do not tell the secret to anyone, not even to your confessor, or a member of your family. When meeting a comrade in public, do not speak about the organisation and definitely do not say anything whatsoever at all related to it to a stranger or in the presence of a stranger. The manual explains how to work with passwords; how to protect and, if necessary, destroy your cell without leaving a single trace, etc. With such a structure in place, it is clear that whatever the secret it is that the AA tried to protect, the members took their mission very seriously. It also explains why the organisation was largely successful in keeping its existence so silent… and why the nature of their secret – Secret – has so far never been discovered.
